Usually a large university with a large green campus, modern classrooms, student clubs of all kinds, and beautiful athletic fields and stadiums come to mind.
That’s how the University of Buffalo (UB), the largest public university in New York State and the flagship institution of the New York State University (SUNY) academic system, might be described.
From 1846 to the present, the University of Buffalo has come a long way. Once a small medical school without even its own building, today UB is a major prestigious institution of higher learning with students from around the world.
The University of Buffalo has three campuses and numerous student exchange programs, and its laboratories conduct critical research in medicine, ecology, and other sciences. What’s more, the university has a strategic UB 2020 program that will see the university receive additional upgrades and enroll 10,000 new students by 2020!

The University at Buffalo is a member of the Association of American Universities, a group of the most prestigious universities in the United States and Canada, offering quality education in all of the above areas as well as numerous research opportunities.

In particular, the university is considered one of the best places to get a degree in medicine and pharmacy, engineering, law and management. Study and research in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
The University at Buffalo’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences is the largest public engineering school in New York State and consists of eight academic departments. According to The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2017, the school’s Division of Civil Engineering is ranked 7th in the United States and 16th in the world.
Founded shortly after World War II, the school now offers a wide variety of engineering fields, including mechanical, aerospace, industrial, systems, computer, biomedical, civil, structural, electronic, and environmental engineering.
Medical Education at the University of Buffalo
As we mentioned earlier, the University at Buffalo was originally a medical school, and having become a large, diverse institution of higher learning, UB has also maintained a commitment to medical education.
Today, a medical education at the University of Buffalo has a number of advantages that make many students from around the world choose to study medicine here.
First, the range of medical specialties available at this institution is unique and varied. There’s the main School of Medicine, where you can study a variety of disciplines ranging from general medicine, surgery, gynecology, orthopedics and ophthalmology to medical technology and biomedicine. There are also separate schools for dental and nursing education, specialties in social medicine and pharmacy. Incidentally, the UB School of Pharmacy is listed as one of the best schools in all of America.
