Hi all! On this page I’m going to tell you a little bit about myself and this blog. When I was 16 I left a small town in Spain and went to the U.S. without knowing English. It was 2005 and I never even thought about going to study abroad. But my parents’ desire and insistence that their daughter could get a better education played a part, for which I am immensely grateful.
But, of course, I would not have been able to immediately enter an American college, because at that point I could not even write my name in English, let alone speak! So, first my parents and I picked up a low-cost language college in New York, where I studied for 6 months.
After returning home, I continued my studies: taking dmstance language courses and studying education in America, in particular linguistics.
I really wanted to go back to New York, so I saved up and was able to save some money (my parents helped me with the rest) for my next step to college – it was an accelerated (6 months instead of 1 year) Foundation Course in college.
While studying, I had to choose universities, where I wanted to go and prepare necessary documents. Among other things, I had to show my level of English and to pass IELTS. After the language course my level was 6.5, but after Foundation I confidently passed IELTS with a score of 8.0.
As a result I applied and got into all the selected universities. I got a very high quality education that I had always dreamed about. And now I can say with confidence that I know everything about education in New York City. And this information I share in my blog.
