Margaret Sheri, Parent Coordinator

P.S. 102, Brooklyn

Margaret

Margaret has been working for and with Learning Leaders for almost 8 years. Before she became the Parent Coordinator at The Bay View School eight years ago, she was a Learning Leaders volunteer and active PTA parent at the school. She continues as a Learning Leader, volunteering with one of the school's BookTalk programs.

As the Parent Coordinator, Sheri operates with three firmly held beliefs:

  1. All parents want the best possible education for their child;
  2. Our principal and the staff of P.S. 102 are dedicated to providing a quality education for all of our children;
  3. Parent involvement is key to a child's success in school.

In addition to coordinating the Learning Leaders volunteer program, Margaret maintains a list of ESL resources, volunteer translators, tutors and the parent information board & table, coordinates the Parent Library, conducts vision screening with parent volunteers, finds and coordinates parent workshops, works with the PTA and school staff on monthly school spirit events, works on special events like the annual Beach Clean-Up, TV Turnoff Week, Kermess and ECOFEST. Sheri also addresses parent questions and concerns, and maintains the school's website and manages the content and distribution of a monthly parent newsletter: Bay View Parent News! This spring, Sheri partnered with Learning Leaders and corporate volunteers from Goldman Sachs for an Arbor Day event during Great School Volunteer Week. The event was a HUGE success, evidenced in part by the gorgeous additions to the P.S. 102 garden on 72nd Street. Visit our events page to read more about this and other Great School Volunteer Week events, and to see photos for P.S. 102!

We applaude Margaret Sheri's inspiring commitment to her school, and gratefully acknowledge her support of Learning Leaders. Thank you for all that you do!
